¹     It was a fine summer day. The old man cut the grass. He used a riding mower. He liked to ride the mower and cut his grass.
 
²     He did not see the white cat. It hid under a bush. When the mower came close, the cat ran up a tree. It sat on a low branch.
 
³     The old man stopped cutting the grass. "What are you doing in my tree?" he asked the cat.
 
⁴     "Meow," said the cat.
 
⁵     "Do you need my help to get down?" asked the old man. He tried to grab the cat by the tail.
 
⁶     "Meow!" said the cat. It held its tail up high.
 
⁷     The old man went into his shed. Soon he came back with a rope. "I will throw my rope to you," the old man said. He threw one end of the rope. The cat did not grab it.
 
⁸     "This will not do," said the old man. "I will come up and get you myself."
 
⁹     "Meow!" said the cat.
