Ford's Big Day
By Mary L. Bushong

1     It was Saturday. Ford jumped out of bed. This was his big day. This was his day with Dad. Four times a year Ford got to have a day with just Dad.

2     Ford's favorite place was the beach. It was not far away. Dad and he were going to spend their day at the shore.

3     The boy peeked out the window as he pulled on his clothes. The sky was blue and the sun was warm. He could not wish for a better day.

4     Ford drank his cup of orange juice. His mother sang while she cooked breakfast. Her song filled him with joy. He tried to eat, but he was too excited to want much. He was glad when Dad was ready to go.

5     "Do not forget to buy us some fresh fish," said Mother. "The cooler is full of ice. The fish will stay cold there."
