The Battle of San Jacinto
By Tammy Scarbrough

1     Imagine that you are a soldier who is about to make his last stand for his land, his freedom, and his very way of life. This is the battle of San Jacinto that was fought on April 21, 1836.

2     The Texans had just been defeated badly at the battle of the Alamo. Texas had almost 200 soldiers and every one of them was killed. The army knew that they were running out of time and energy and could only fight one more battle to gain independence from Mexico and its ruthless leader, Santa Anna.

3     Sam Houston, the leader of this Texas army, was a very smart man and he had a plan. Santa Anna and his army had gotten a little over-confident because they had just slaughtered the Texans at the Alamo, but he knew that the Texans had not given up and that Houston was probably going to attack them in the morning.
