Bulgaria - Geography

1     Bulgaria is a beautiful country in Eastern Europe. Its interesting geography consists of many different kinds of lands. It has mountains on both sides and a beautiful river in the north.
 
2     The capital of Bulgaria is a city called Sofia, which is a large city in western Bulgaria. Sofia was started in the 7th century BC, which means that Sofia is more than 2,000 years old. Many things in Sofia are very old. Some of Sofia's streets are almost as old as the city itself. Other parts of old Sofia are hidden. People built new buildings over the old ones. So, some parts of the old city are buried underneath modern Sofia.
 
3     Another thing you can find underneath Sofia is water. Sofia is home to many mineral springs. What is a spring? It is a place where underground water flows to the surface. Many times, this water is hot, and sometimes, this water has healthy chemicals in it called minerals. Many people like to take baths in these springs. Sofia is a very popular place for bathing in springs.
