Pointillism - Lots and Lots of Dots!
By Colleen Messina

1     Have you ever done a dot-to-dot picture? Some artists painted whole pictures with lots and lots of small dots. Red dots, blue dots, yellow dots...each painting is made up of thousands of colorful dots!

2     "Dots?" you may ask. "Why paint with dots?"

3     Some artists who lived in the 19th century thought that dots were fun. This is what they did. They made confetti-sized dots to create shapes in their paintings. They used many colors. They thought that the dots made the picture look bright. Especially from far away.
