Thomas Edison, Thomas Alva Edison |
Tim and Tess were spending the night at Wendy's house. Their parents were out of town. There was a blizzard outside. The children were playing a game. All the lights in the house went dark.
Wendy's parents told the children to bring their sleeping bags and blankets downstairs to the living room. They had a big fire going in the fireplace. The children cuddled up on the floor in front of the fire.
"How long do you the think the lights will be out?" Tim asked Wendy's dad.
"I'm sure the workmen will have them back on soon," answered Wendy's dad.
"I'm a little scared," said Tess. "I like having lights on when it's dark. I can't imagine what it was like before we had light bulbs. Who invented them, anyway?"
Wendy knew the answer to that. "Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. Let's ask him what it was like. Where are the magic dice?"
"They are in the drawer," offered Tim. "May I make the wish?"
"Sure," said Wendy and Tess together.
