"Where are my socks?" Bethany said to herself. She was already running late for school. She did not need this problem!
"I laid out my outfit last night," she continued. She remembered putting her shirt, pants, and underwear on the chair near her bed. She had put her shoes under the chair, and stuck her new socks inside the shoe, leaving the toes hanging out.
Bethany loved her new socks. They had little kittens embroidered on them, and the cuffs had lace trim. They were going to make her outfit very cute. She was getting mad.
"Where could they be?" she thought.
Bethany heard her brother Ben yell down the stairs. "Hey, Mom, have you seen my soccer socks? I need to take them for practice today."
Bethany walked down the hall in her bare feet. "Are you missing your socks, too?" she asked her brother.
"Yes. This is the second time this week. I have been leaving them on the floor by my door."
Bethany rolled her eyes as she looked at her brother's room. Clothes were everywhere. No wonder he could not find his socks.
Ben continued. "I leave them right by the door so I don't forget them. Now they are gone."
Bethany's dad came out of the hallway bathroom muttering. "Where could my dress socks be?" he said.
"Not you, too!" Bethany and Ben said together.
"What do you mean? Are you missing socks?"
