Firefighters
By Vickie Chao

1     Firefighters are heroes of our community. When there is a fire, they do not run away from it. Instead, they rush into it! As they risk their own lives, they have two things in mind. One is to put out the fire quickly. Two is to find anybody that may still be trapped inside. Thanks to their bravery, many homes and lives are saved each day.

2     Firefighters work very hard to protect us. Is there anything we can do to help them do their job? Sure, there is plenty. The first thing we can do is not to cause a fire. Before going to sleep or leaving home, remember to turn off stoves and blow out candles. Before packing up and leaving a campsite, remember to put out the campfire.

3     The second thing we can do is to be prepared if there is a fire. We can have a smoke detector and fire extinguisher at home. We can practice with our family to see how fast we can get out of our house.
