What Is a Magnet?
By Debra McGlynn

1     Mrs. White put five things on the science table. She told the class that the things were magnets.

2     Katie raised her hand. She asked, "What is a magnet?"

3     Mrs. White answered, "Magnets are pieces of metal. They stick to other metals."

4     John said, "My mom has magnets. They're on our refrigerator. But they don't look like these."

5     Mrs. White smiled and said, "Those are decorations, but they have real magnets in them. They are hidden inside or on the back of them. Come look at these."
