Caution: Wet Property! (Properties of Water)
By Trista L. Pollard

1     It's a liquid! It's an Earth material! It's water! Water is one of the most important substances on Earth, and plants, humans, and animals all need it to survive. When most people think about water, they think about the things it can do for us. They think about water as a something to quench our thirst or wash dirt from our hands. Water is interesting on its own, though. Have you ever taken the time to observe the properties of water?

2     Water is transparent. This means that when you put a rock into a cup of water, you are able to see the rock through the water. If the water was not transparent, you would have a hard time trying to find the rock.

3     Water takes the shape of its container. It has no definite shape of its own. If you poured water into a bowl that was shaped like a teddy bear, the water would take the shape of the teddy bear bowl. If the water was poured out, it would no longer hold the shape of the teddy bear bowl.
