The Space Ghost, Part 2

1     Odd things were starting to happen on the ship; while Dad was telling the story about the space ghost, the lights went out, and Cassandra began screaming.
 
2     After a few seconds of shrieking, the lights came on dimly. Cassandra glanced down at her arm and saw a very human looking finger there. It was covered in some kind of yellowish slime. Was that supper? Her eyes followed the finger to its source.
 
3     "ZACH! That's not funny! You scared me!" she yelled at her brother.
 
4     Zach ignored her protests and just kept laughing.
 
5     "That's enough silly stuff, kids," said Dad. "We've got to figure out what's going on with the ship."
 
6     "But you didn't finish the story yet," whined Zach.
 
7     "I can finish it later, once we get this ship going again. Zach, you go back down to the engine room. See if you can run a diagnostic..." he paused as a hollow 'pong' echoed through the ship as it rocked for a moment. "I'm going to the bridge to see what's out there."
 
8     Zach hurried down the corridor toward engineering. The metal deck plates clanked beneath his feet. The half-light made the ordinary walkway seem different, almost alien. "You're letting your imagination run away with you," he scolded himself as he felt the hairs on the back of his neck creep up.
