¹     Alissa and her younger brother David barged through the front door of their house and stampeded to the back bedroom where Mom was getting Josh up from his nap.
 
²     "Mom!" the brother and sister chorused together.
 
³     "We're in here!" Mom called as she cuddled a sleepy baby against her shoulder. She looked up at the breathless girl and boy who bounded through the doorway.
 
⁴     "We have decided what we want to dress up as for Halloween," said Alissa. "I am going as an Indian girl and David is..."
 
⁵     "I'm going as a ghost!" broke in David as he glared at his sister.
 
⁶     "Those sound like good choices," said Mom. "I know what Josh is going as, too. He's going as a pumpkin!" Alissa and David laughed.
 
⁷     "We will be a very funny looking group!" said Alissa.
 
⁸     "Why do we dress up for Halloween?" asked David.
 
⁹     "That is a complicated story," said Mom. "No one can say for sure, but a lot of people have ideas."
